Why I believe Glidden Fence Makes Sense,

Integrity, honesty, reliability: They all seem to be a thing of the past in the fence construction business. Part of the blame, I believe, stems from what I like to call the "lowest cost" factor. I can't tell you how many times I am told that a person will be going with the lowest bid. It makes me wince when I hear it. What they fail to realize is that while they may cut the upfront cost, they will most likely pay more in the long run, sometimes a whole lot more. Homeowners move more often in today's world than in our parent's time. We find many homeowners move within one year and never see how their fence has held up in 3 to 5 years. With this in mind, fence contractors are pushing substandard materials in hopes of being the "lowest bid".

I myself understand budgeting and pinching pennies. I am the mother of 8 children! My nickname is "Penny Pincher"! Through experience, I have learned that there are times when the best buy really is the best buy and others when it is better to pay a little more upfront rather than have to pay for the consequence! I wish all contractors held the same level of integrity as my father. Unfortunately, it has become more and more evident over the years that they simply don't. It honestly saddens me when I drive around and look at the examples of fence that are being built. I think to myself, "What are these neighborhoods going to look like in 10 years?" I believe many homeowners associations will begin to make changes to the requirements of fences.

If I had a dime for every time I have heard, "So and so installed my fence, but I can't get them to return my call regarding the repairs I need done due to vehicle, tree or lawn mower damage." I would be quite well off! What I say to my customers when they are shopping for a fence is, "Call the various companies that are quoting your fence from another number and ask if they could give you an estimate for repairs." I can promise you this, we not only build the best, we repair the rest. It's not just a fancy slogan, it's the truth. We will respond to your request within 48 hours, and if needed, that day. During the windstorm on December 1st, 2005, I personally ran 15 estimates a day for the 6 following days and yes, that would include Sunday! Most of us have either dogs, kids, pools or a combination of all three. We here at Glidden are no different. We understand the urgency of the situation and we care.

My father's favorite quote is, "We've had the same phone number for over 30 years!" My brother, sister, uncle who is only 7 months older than me and I all grew up with this company. We love it like you love your child! All of us work here and between us, we have 18 children! I laugh and say, "It's just to insure that Glidden Fence will be around for years to come!" We are a family business and we all take great pride in our finished product whether it is chain link, wood, polyvinyl chloride (pvc), or even Hollow Ornamental Iron.
